RAY SHARPE LINDA LU (27 great black rockers from 'JAMIE', incs..Title, T.A Blues, Monkey's Uncle, Oh My Baby's Gone, Kewpie Doll, Red Sails In The Sunset, Hey Little Girl, Long John, That's The Way I Feel. There weren't many black rockabilly records, but Linda Lu was one--and it was maybe the best. Doug Sahm, Delbert McClinton and others cite it as a record that turned their heads around. The original version is here together with 27 other rare or unissued sides from 1958 to 1962. Most of these sides were cut in Phoenix by the legendary Lee Hazlewood, and the underground classics in this long overdue rerospective include Oh My Baby's Gone, That's The Way I Feel, Kewpie Doll, TA Blues, Red Sails In The Sunset, Long John, and Justine. OTIS SPANN – CRYIN' TIME (Great Chicago blues pianist and singer (the half-brother of Muddy Waters and a stalwart of his band), Cryin' Time caught Otis Spann in the company of the great blues guitarist Luther Johnson and the king of acid-rock guitar Barry Melton (then with Country Joe & The Fish). The results were far better than most of the rock-meets-the-blues efforts of the era as the young guys came to Otis on his own terms with love and respect. The resultant blues are deeply funky affairs brimming with spiky guitar licks, rolling bluesy piano and Otis's emotion-packed, world-weary vocals.
