DVD: FILM BLACKBOARD JUNGLE

(classic 1955 black & white cult movie with Glenn Ford, Sidney Poitier, Vic Morrow & Anne Francis. Set in a USA high school of Juvenile Delinquents & square 'Daddy-O' teachers. The first film to use the NEW music craze of Rock 'N' Roll, hear Bill Haley & The Comets doing 'Rock Around The Clock''....ALL TIME CLASSIC. In this gritty urban drama, war veteran Richard Dadier (Glenn Ford) wants to begin his career as a teacher and is given an assignment at a boys high school in inner-city New York. However, he soon discovers the school is overrun by delinquents, led by Artie West (Vic Morrow), an insolent hood who likes to call Richard Mr. Daddy-O. Artie and his gang steal, destroy property, refuse to respect authority, and threaten the female teachers with rape. While most of the faculty have given up and meekly let the delinquents do what they want, Dadier is determined to bring order back to his classroom, even after Artie's thugs threaten Richard's pregnant wife. Keep your eyes peeled for a bit part by Jameel Farah, years before he would change his name to Jamie Farr. Blackboard Jungle was also the first major studio film to use rock & roll on the soundtrack; the film's success kick-started sales of Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & His Comets, which helped to spark the rock & roll boom of the 1950s

DVD: FILM COOL AND CRAZY

(1958 black & white J.D movie with Scott Marlow, Gigi Perreau & Dick Jones. The story of rebellious youth, reform school dropouts & a Marijuana ring....shows the 1950s view of the evils of drugs
The Cool and the Crazy tells the story of Ben Saul, a reform school graduate who is transferred to a Kansas City high school. There, Ben's clowning in class ticks off the local gang of tough guys, but he soon wins all of their admiration when he begins buying them beer, taking them to dances, giving them kicks, and then finally turning them on to marijuana. Ben is working as a frontman for a local marijuana ring, but the local police detective is hot on his trail. When a marijuna-crazed addict teenager whom Ben has sold the drug to, dies trying to hold up a filling station for drug money, the police question him and events begin to spiral out of Ben's control. In the dramatic (or melodramatic) finale, Ben ends up killing the pusher for more marijuana only to find that there is none, and gets his just deserts in a fiery car wreck. Then there is an obligatory moralizing segment, where a policeman screams at the surviving addicts, Is this what you call 'kicks'?! Sooner or later, if you don't wise up you're all gonna wind up like this, one way or the other.)

DVD: FILM COSH BOY

(original legendary 1953 U.K Juvenile Delinquent flick, starring James Kenney, Joan Collins, Betty Ann Davis, Johnny Briggs & Sid James amongst others. Set In London Cosh Boys is a reflection of moral panic when many newspapers carried stories about 'cosh boys' going out and mugging old ladies !!!
Based on an original play by Bruce Walker, the film tells of the exploits of 16-year-old deliquent youth Roy Walsh (James Kenney) and his gang in post-World War II London. The gang starts off by mugging women. Later, Roy becomes infatuated with Rene, the sister of one of the gang members. Already having a boyfriend, Brian, she rejects Roy, to his fury. Later the gang beat up Brian. Roy menaces Rene, who eventually submits to him. When she informs him that he has made her pregnant, and urges him to marry her, he decides he wants nothing more to do with her. Roy's mother, Elsie Walsh (Betty Ann Davies), is involved with Canadian Bob Stevens (Robert Ayres), who urges her to marry him so he can take Roy in hand before it's too late. Roy hates Bob. Bob works as an assistant manager at the Palidrome dance hall, which becomes a target for the gang. Another member of staff appears on the scene, and is shot and wounded by the gang. Later that night a mob of women arrive on the doorstep with Rene's mother, who adds that the police are on their way. Bob arrives, removes Rene's mother from the premises and decides to give Roy a thrashing - for his own good - before the police arrive in the belief that if the judge hears he has already received a thrashing, his sentence might be lighter, which will be easier for his mother to stomach. The police arrive just as Bob is brandishing his belt in readiness. Bob lets them in, and they ask who he is. He tells him he is the boy's stepfather, as his mother and I were married this morning. The leading officer congratulates him, then, seeing the belt in his hand, smiles, and suggests to his colleague that they go and arrest the other gang member first and come back for Roy later. Bob begins thrashing Roy as the scene cuts to outside and the mob of women listening to Roy's cries and shrieks for help. The detectives then walk away, into the night.
Cosh Boy has also been named The Tough Guy, or The Slasher. It was the first British film to receive the new X certificate)

(rare 1957 USA Juvenile Delinquent movie in black & white, starring Lita Milan, Peter Graves, Ed Nelson & Tim Carey - set in Cajun country the guys are after the cute 15 year old chick - how will it end?? The calculatedly sleazy film stars Lita Milan as Marie, the daughter of slovenly Cajun fisherman Herbert (Douglas Fowley). Marie falls in love with Northern architect Martin (Peter Graves), which rests not at all well with her ardent--and psychotic--local suitor Ulysses (Tim Carey at his most loathsome). Sharp-eyed viewers will notice that, in addition to his role as the heroine's father, Douglas Fowley doubles in a bit as the hero's contractor friend.
