THE MILLER SISTERS - GOT YOU ON MY MIND (DUE END OF AUGUST)

(Not to be confused with the same-named New York quintet. The Miller Sisters were in fact sisters-in-law Elsie Jo Wages-Miller and Mildred Millie Miller, a Mississippi duo whose breath-taking close vocal harmonies saw them record not only in their own right for Sam Phillips' label, but also grace the recordings of other Sun notables. Jo was married to guitarist Roy Miller, Millie's brother, and initially they performed as The Miller Trio in and around the Memphis area. The next stage in the evolution of C&W thrushes, theirs was a sound carved out in the honky-tonks of the South where traditional Country sentiment was beginning to give way to a harder edged rockin' sound. Blending their voices with seemingly effortless perfection, Phillips saw in the girls an opportunity to emulate The Davis Sisters' success, and the first of three singles, 'Someday You Will Pay' b/w 'You Didn't Think I Would', was released in Spring 1955. Two further discs followed, including the ever-popular 'Ten Cats Down', a fine example of Sun's mid-50s femme rocker sound. They can also be heard performing background vocals on Glenn Honeycutt and Cast King's recordings, as well as a demo by Gene Simmons, who is credited with introducing them into the Sun fold, tracks which are also included on this compliation. Includes: Somebody You Will Pay, You Didn't Think I Would, There's No Right Way To Do Me Wrong, Ten Cats Down, Finders Keepers, Woody, You Can Tell Me, My Isle Of Golden Dreams, It Only Hurts For A Little While, also includes tracks with Glenn Honeycutt, Cast King & Gene Simmons - with rare alternate versions)

SI CRANSTOUN - SKINNY JEANS (includes the song DYNAMO)

(THIS CD CONTAINS THE HOTTEST DANCE FLOOR JIVER SINCE GO CAT GO HIT THESE SHORES. DYNAMO IS THE TRACK THAT SOUNDS LIKE JACKIE WILSON AND HAS PACKED THE DANCE FLOORS SINCE BEING PLAYED AT THE RHYTHM RIOT FESTIVAL IN NOVEMBER 2009 - NOW AVAILABLE ON THIS CD - other tracks are: Skinny Jeans, Sing Her Praises, Chocoholic, The Brazilian, Chick Flick, The Thames River Song, Young As You Feel, Miss Santa Claus, Kiss On These Lips

Si Cranstoun is the original modern day underground superstar of the south London streets, and his explosive debut solo single is certain to sky rocket bringing a new dimension, that harks back to the golden era of rock n roll, into the pop mainstream once more. 'Dynamo' has an infectious groove and Si's vocals are just too darn supreme for superlatives.

To claim that your voice has been inspired by the great old singers is a promotion tool that many retro styled singers adopt. However, if you put Stevie Wonder on after James Morrison or play Otis Redding after Paolo Nutini you've got an obvious knock out in the first verse round.... But, put Jackie Wilson or Sam Cooke on after Si Cranstoun and you've actually got a genuinely matched musical fight!

Si Cranstoun is much like the old great band leaders too, not only vocally but his love and passion for music also see him write, produce, dance and record all of his own tracks too. As half of dynamic duo The Dualers ( 2 top 30 hits 'Kiss On The Lips & Truly Madly Deeply) Si was personally trained to the level of 'Grand Master' in the old school art of song writing for 5 years by Grammy award winning Graham Lyle (writer for Michael Jackson, Tina Turner). Aside from playing guitar and delivering thunderous vocals live on stage with his band, Si prides himself on high octane, energetic dance routines that get compared to an original cross between Justin Timberlake and Gene Kelly.

Si & his band founded this fresh new project last year and have already sold out The Fairfield Halls and landed some major festivals this year including the headline act in Germany at The Big Rhythm Rumble and The Rhythm Riot in Sussex sharing the bill with Jackie Wilson's son. Si's band features some of London most revered musicians including Mike Watts on Drums - (drummer for Grammy nominee James Hunter) and Stewart Pannaman on double Bass - (American Doo Wop legend Nappy Brown's Bass player).)

MAMBO IN THE MAINSTREAM

(It took a while, ten years in fact, before the music, mood and majesty of the mambo entered the mainstream. Cuban bandleader Perez Prado first introduced the dance at La Tropicana night-club in Havana, and through a natural and gradual process the message quickly spread. Taking its name from a variety of sources including a Haitian voodoo priestess, the mambo was a flamboyant form of self-expression that blended rhythmic swing with ethnic canción. When the trend made its way north, largely through migrants working in the big cities, the hip and the glamorous in New York went crazy over what they heard. Record company scouts hit the ballrooms and saw first hand how dance-crazed enthusiasts, affectionately known as 'mambonicks', were clamouring to hear the authentic exponents like Tito Puente, Machito and Xavier Cugat.

In 1954 the zeitgeist began to infiltrate the pop scene, and the nation's best-sellers were suddenly blessed with a string of self-evident song titles - 'Mambo Italiano', 'Papa Loves Mambo' and 'They Were Doin' The Mambo'. Similar developments began to stir up the r&b field, not to mention the new rock & roll school. Stalwarts like Ruth Brown, Ivory Joe Hunter and the Robins brought their variations to bear, as did Bill Haley, the Platters and Otis Williams. It didn't stop there because the sensuousness started cropping up in other areas as well, particularly through proponents such as Louis Prima, Earl Bostic and Cal Tjader. The name of the dance might not have always been apparent in a title, but the mambo's percussive groove was clearly apparent in the work of country talents such as Johnny Horton, Janis Martin and Johnny Burnette.

Dance studios were quick to add the mambo to their list of styles and steps, and popular TV programmes on both sides of the Atlantic helped familiarize the general public with the necessary dress code. Now, for the first time ever, all of the elements of this fascinating music have been brought together by compiler Stuart Colman for the Fantastic Voyage CD 'Mambo in the Mainstream'. One listen and the feelgood factor will ascend to an all-time high.

Track listing:
I Got To Learn To Do The Mambo (Ivory Joe Hunter), Mine All Mine (LaVern Baker), Mambostic (Earl Bostic), Out Of The Picture (The Robins), Mambo Italiano (Rosemary Clooney), Mambo Rock (Bill Haley), Honey Love (The Drifters featuring Clyde McPhatter), Ay Si Si Mambo (The Dootones), Papa Loves Mambo (Perry Como), Do You Want To Dance (Bobby Freeman), Fever (Louis Prima), Mambo Baby (Ruth Brown), Se De Boom Run Dun (Mickey & Sylvia), Mamblues (Cal Tjader), House Of Bamboo (Earl Grant), Mambo Boogie (Johnny Otis Orchestra), Mambo Sh-Mambo (Otis Williams & The Charms), They Were Doin' The Mambo (Vaughn Monroe), Love Me, Love (Janis Martin), Lonesome Tears In My Eyes (Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'n' Roll Trio), Lover's Rock (Johnny Horton), All She Wants To Do Is Mambo (Wynonie Harris), Shake It Up Mambo (The Platters), Loop De Loop Mambo (The Robins), Mambo Jambo [aka Que Rico El Mambo] (Perez Prado)

LONNIE DONEGAN - SUNDOWN

(Recorded in tandem with the star-studded Puttin' On The Style, which had returned LONNIE DONEGAN to the UK charts in early 1978 after a 15-year absence, SUNDOWN perhaps remains Lonnie's finest LP. Frequently referred to as his Cajun album, it featured Country heavies Albert Lee, Doug Kershaw, Emory Gordy and Mickey Raphael alongside top session players like Richard Bennett, Jim Keltner and Ray Cooper, and it placed Lonnie firmly in a Country-Rock setting. This special expanded edition, which includes six previously unreleased bonus tracks, marks its first official appearance on CD.

LONNIE DONEGAN - PUTTIN’ ON THE STYLE - THE LOST 1978 ALBUM

(Recorded during 1977, at a relatively low ebb in LONNIE DONEGAN's career, PUTTIN' ON THE STYLE was very much a labour of love for producer Adam Faith, and the various Rock luminaries - Ringo Starr, Elton John, Albert Lee, Brian May, Rory Gallagher, Ron Wood, Leo Sayer, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voorman, Jim Keltner, among many others - whose gratis contributions amounted to some serious dues-paying. The LP received rave reviews and Lonnie was subsequently rewarded with his first chart record in 15 years. This special expanded edition, which features four previously unreleased bonus tracks, marks its first official appearance on CD.

Track listing:

CLYDE McPHATTER - LOVER PLEASE - THE COMPLETE MGM & MERCURY SINGLES

(2 CD set. When the topic of the first soul music recording or most influential R&B singer of the '50s comes up, one name should emerge, but often doesn't: Clyde McPhatter. North Carolina-born McPhatter's wailing, gospel-charged lead tenor vocal on Billy Ward's Dominoes' 'Have Mercy Baby' in 1952 predates every other recording cited as the first soul record, and everyone from Frankie Lymon to Smokey Robinson, from Gary U.S. Bonds to Aaron Neville have acknowledged the singer's omnipresent influence. His lead vocals have graced #1 R&B hits by Ward's Dominos and The Drifters ('Money Honey,''Such A Night') as well as such solo smashes as 'Treasure Of Love' and 'A Lover's Question.' And he's in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame.

So it might come as a surprise that the period (1959 to 1965) of this legend's recording career that includes his biggest pop hit ('Lover Please'), his Top 25 take on 'Little Bitty Pretty One,' as well as his final Top 10 R&B hits ('TA TA' and 'Deep In The Heart Of Harlem'), would be well-documented. Up until this collection, it has not, and now that oversight has been corrected.

Simply, the recordings here reinforce McPhatter's status as one of the greatest voices of the '50s and '60s, while showcasing his extreme versatility - deeply stirring ballads, light-hearted pop, rollicking rock 'n' roll, and sumptuous uptown soul, with an all-star lineup including Clyde Otis, Ray Ellis, and Shelby Singleton in the Producer's chair. The 44 tracks on Lover Please / The Complete MGM and Mercury Singles feature Clyde's takes on classics '(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over' and 'The Glory Of Love,' plus songs penned by such notables as Brook Benton, Otis Blackwell, Charles Singleton, Neil Sedaka and the singer himself.

Lover Please /The Complete MGM and Mercury Singles also includes extensive liner notes by Bill Dahl, song by song credits, and period photos and recording memorabilia.

A ROCKET IN MY POCKET - THE HIPSTER'S GUIDE TO ROCKABILLY MUSIC (DELAYED UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST)

(Here are a couple of fistfuls of tracks from the wild side of rockabilly. Over the years many 50s cuts have been issued under the rockabilly banner that would have been better described as country or hillbilly. These, however, are the real deal: hopped-up, whiskey-fuelled songs of teenage rebellion, sung by untamed rockers who probably never expected their careers to last the week.

Alongside acknowledged classics of the genre such as 'Put Your Cat Clothes On' by Carl Perkins, there are rare rockin' one-offs such as the frantic bass-slapping 'Don't Be Gone Long' by Bob Doss or the remarkable 'Wash Machine Boogie' by the Echo Valley Boys - the world's finest rockin' hymn to the romantic joys of household appliances.

The CD covers the whole rockabilly spectrum, with tracks from prime rockin' labels such as Sun, Starday, Meteor and Columbia, plus tiny imprints such as Lilac.

Tied-in with this release is the publication of a 300-page book, also called A Rocket In My Pocket - the Hipster's Guide To Rockabilly by Max Décharné (Serpent's Tail), the first comprehensive history of the entire rockabilly genre to appear for twenty years. Max has compiled the Ace CD to complement the book, and has also written the sleevenotes. Reviews are expected in all major newspapers and magazines, in addition to radio interviews with the author.

This is the first time on CD for some of these tracks, many of them favourites at rockin' clubs in the UK and around the world. The CD's title comes from Jimmy Lloyd's 1958 classic 'I Got A Rocket In My Pocket', included here alongside frantic movers such as 'The Raging Sea' by Gene Maltais or the gutbucket hill-country sounds Rocky Bill Ford's 'Mad Dog In Town'. There's also a track from the cat who started it all, Elvis Presley - whose 'Mystery Train' inspired a whole regiment of young musicians to find a cheap studio and get down and wail. He's on the cover of both our CD and the book, too.

An ideal introduction for anyone new to genre, but with enough rare tracks to please the long-term, hardcore rockabilly fan.

Track listing:
1. SHE'S THE ONE THAT'S GOT IT - Allen Page, 2. JELLO SAL - Benny Ingram, 3. DON'T BE GONE LONG - Bob Doss, 4. PUT YOUR CAT CLOTHES ON - Carl Perkins, 5. GET WITH IT - Charlie Feathers with Jody & Jerry, 6. HOW CAN YOU BE MEAN TO ME - Dale Vaughn, 7. SNAKE EYED MAMA - Don Cole, 8. WASH MACHINE BOOGIE - Echo Valley Boys (w Bill Browning), 9. MYSTERY TRAIN - Elvis Presley, 10. EVERYBODY'S TRYING TO BE BABY - Freddie Franks, 11. THE RAGING SEA - Gene Maltais, 12. JITTERBOP BABY - Hal Harris, 13. ROCKIN' IN THE GRAVEYARD - Jackie Morningstar, 14. I CAN'T FIND THE DOORKNOB - Jimmy & Johnny, 15. BIG GREEN CAR - Jimmy Carroll aka Billy Carroll, 16. I GOT A ROCKET IN MY POCKET - Jimmy Lloyd, 17. THE ORLONS - THE WAH-WATUSI / SOUTH STREET

(Discovered by high school classmate Len Barry, the Orlons (Shirley Brickley, Marlena Davis, Rosetta Hightower and Stephen Caldwell) were probably Cameo Parkway's most popular vocal group and certainly the label's top girl group.

This two-on-one release presents their only two charting albums, their 1962 debut ''The Wah-Watusi'' and 1963s ''South Street'' - both featuring Top 5 title tracks - in their original pristine mono.

Notes by Gene Sculatti include great quotes from band member Caldwell (he of that ultra-low ''frog'' voice).

BOBBY RYDELL - SALUTES THE GREAT ONES / AT THE COPA

(These two 1961 albums - presented here in their original stereo mixes - represented an effort by Bobby to move beyond the limitations of his teen idol persona.

By recording a live album at the Copa, Bobby was following a well-trodden trail left by other pop male vocalists like Bobby Darin and Paul Anka, and ''The Great Ones'' in the title of the first record refers to the songs from The Great American Songbook that he covers on the album.

Jim Ritz contributes notes with exclusive quotes from Bobby himself.

Track listing:
SALUTES THE GREAT ONES: 1. MAMMY, 2. THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, 3. ALL OF YOU, 4. FRENESI, 5. APRIL SHOWERS, 6. EVERYTHING'S COMING UP ROSES, 7. THERE'S A RAINBOW 'ROUND MY SHOULDER, 8. THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING BIG, 9. SO RARE, 10. WRAP YOUR TROUBLES IN DREAMS, 11. THE BIRTH OF THE BLUES, 12. NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT

, RYDELL AT THE COPA: 13. A LOT OF LIVING TO DO, 14. SWAY, 15. THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC, 16. REMEMBER ME BABY - CAMEO PARKWAY VOCAL GROUPS VOLUME 1

(There are collectors...and then there are doo wop collectors, which is why we have dedicated our first Cameo Parkway compilation to the fantastic vocal groups who recorded for the label.

All of these (except the Rays track and the two Roommates tracks, which we had to include) are from the original tapes, and only one track (the Lydells' 'There Goes the Boy', which again we felt was a must) has ever been out on CD at retail before.

Ed Osborne chips in with notes, and helped us on the track selection. Perhaps tops among the finds are unreleased tracks from the Dovells ( 'Short on Bread' ) and Tymes ( 'Did You Ever Get My Letter?' ).

Track listing:
1. LET IT PLEASE BE YOU - Rick And The Masters, 2. THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN - The Skyliners, 3. THE MOUNTAINS - The Sequins, 4. THERE GOES THE BOY - The Lydells, 5. I DON'T WANT YOUR LOVE - Rick And The Masters, 6. SHORT ON BREAD - The Dovells, 7. I LAUGHED SO HARD - The Defenders, 8. SANDRA BABY - The Gleems Aka The Jaynells, 9. GOLDEN RINGS - The Turbans, 10.
