JACK EARLS - SLOW DOWN - THE SUN YEARS PLUS

(2 CD set, 48 tracks. Jack Earls witnessed the birth of rockabilly in Memphis, and slapped its infant behind. It was called rock'n'roll, but it was a new rock, crafted by a community of working men and country musicians striving to get records out on Sam Phillips' Sun label. Jack's neighbors included Elvis Presley, Johnny and Dorsey Burnette, Paul Burlison, Johnny and Bill Black, and many other musicians. Between 1955 and 1957, Jack wrote and recorded his own songs with his own band, the Jimbos. From several sessions at Sun, Jack saw a single release in early 1956, issued among a barrage of classic rockabilly platters. Although his record Slow Down b/w A Fool For Lovin' You (Sun 240) was a regional hit, Jack decided against touring and supported his family by working days and playing music in Memphis at night.

During the mid-1960s, Jack and his family joined the century's great migration of Southern-born people moving north, and they settled in Detroit, Michigan. Jack drove trucks for the Chrysler Corporation, and swam in the long-established country scene of the city. Rediscovered by fans of his Sun recordings during the 1970s, Jack made more records for Gary Thompson's Olympic label in Detroit, showing the world that his voice had grown in power and expression. Since the nineties, Jack has headlined at rockabilly and rock'n'roll festivals across Europe and the United States. Today, the voice and personality of Jack Earls win over fans of rock'n'roll at any stage he mounts. Whether he sings an hour for a crowd of thousands in Sweden, or he sits in with a local band in a Detroit bar, Jack gives it everything he's got, and Memphis rockabilly lives on.

This collection presents two CDs of Jack Earls, including every Sun session with the Jimbos (with several previously unissued tracks); and all of Jack's recordings made in Detroit, from the first commercial release of Take Me To That Place on Ry-Ho in 1973, to his 1999 I Started Rockin' A Long Time Ago. In an extended interview with Jack on disc two, he recaps his musical career and tells vivid stories about rockin' in Memphis. With this collection, we witness the timeless quality of Jack's voice - a voice that Sam Phillips personally chose for his Sun label in 1955 - a voice as unique as any of Phillips' other, more famous discoveries - a voice of pure rockabilly fire.

Two CDs of music spanning 40 years, plus an in-depth interview. Hear Jack tell about his wild life in Memphis, during the rockin' fifties! The ultimate collection of one of Sun Records' earliest rockabilly bands, the Jimbos, with several previously unissued Sun tracks!

TIBBY EDWARDS - PLAY IT COOL MAN, PLAY IT COOL - GONNA SHAKE THIS SHACK TONIGHT

- Elvis' co-star on the Louisiana Hayride
- A rockabilly pioneer
- Rockabilly fans have been clamoring for his Mercury recordings on CD!
- The CD contains his complete recordings for Mercury, 'D', Jin and Todd.

Although he charted no hits and died in obscurity, there's a cult following for Cajun-born TIBBY EDWARDS. He was on the Louisiana Hayride radio barndance before Elvis and got a first-hand look at the birth of rock 'n' roll. Seeing Elvis, he became one of the very first country performers to really understand rock 'n' roll and declare himself for the new music. His early cover version of Flip Flop And Fly and his recording of George Jones' Play It Cool Man are acknowledged rockabilly classics. Back in 1985, Bear Family issued a Tibby Edwards LP, and now, in response to fan requests, we're reissuing it on CD... but we've augmented it with all of Tibby's Mercury recordings plus his singles for 'D', Jin, and Todd. In other words, everything he ever recorded.

Track listing: Flip, Flop And Fly, Play It Cool Man Play It Cool, There Ain't No Better Time, Long Time Gone, Shift Gears, You Made A Believer Out Of Me, C'est Si Tout, It'll Be A Long Long Time, Fool That I Was (I Asked For More), (I Don't Want To Say I Love You) But I Do, I'd Come Running, Walkin' And Cryin' With The Blues, Why Can't You Be Mine, I'm Still In Love With You, Come On Chere (Let's Have Fun), Mine Forever, Too Proud To Wear My Name, If You Love Me, Let Me Know It, I Can't Face The Future, If You Lose, You'll Understand, That's How I Was Lost, Cry, Cry Darlin', What Has Become Of You, Try To Understand, Just A Few More Tears, Uninvited, Big Mamou, Teenage Troubles, Day Dreaming, Promises, Memory Of A Lie, One More Night, Forever Is A Long Long Time, Congratulations To You

RAMBLIN' JACK ELLIOTT - AT LANSDOWNE STUDIOS LONDON

(Rambling Jack Elliott might have been a doctor's son from Brooklyn named Elliott Adnopoz, but he looked and acted the part of the ramblin’ gamblin’ folk hero. He toured with Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and all of the original folk era greats. In 1955, he came to England, and began his recording career there. These recordings effectively jumpstarted the folk music craze in England, introducing the work of artists as diverse as Woody Guthrie and Jimmie Rodgers to European audiences. After a short sojourn back in the United States, Elliott returned to England in 1959 and recorded another classic EP, 'Kid Stuff - Rambling Jack Elliott Sings Children's Songs ByWoody Guthrie' as well as the equally well-regarded 'Rambling Jack Elliott Sings Songs ByWoody Guthrie And Jimmie Rodgers'. His backing musicians included the great Alexis Korner. In addition to the previously issued (and extremely rare) original recordings, this set includes five previously unknown recordings by Elliott and Derroll Adams from 1960. Essential folk music... unavailable for FAR too long!

Includes 8 previously unissued recordings from the legendary Lansdowne Studio sessions, including duets with Derroll Adams.

Track listing:
Talking Guitar Blues, San Francisco Bay Blues, Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms (& Derroll Adams), East Virginia Blues (& Derroll Adams), Ain't It A Shame (& Derroll Adams), Muleskinner Blues (& Derroll Adams), Ain't It A Shame (comic version) (& Derroll Adams), Howdido, My Daddy, Why Oh Why, The Fox, Riding In My Car, Old Rattler, Rusty Jiggs And Sandy Sam (The Sierry Petes), Git Along Little Dogies, My Little Lady (Sadie Brown), Night Herding Song, The Old Chisholm Trail, Fifteen Cents And A Dollar, Rocky Mountain Belle, Talking Blues, Diamond Joe, Down In The Willow Garden, I Ride An Old Paint, Jack O'Diamonds, Pretty Boy Floyd, Do-Re-Me, Dead Or Alive, Grand Coulee Dam, Dust Storm Disaster, I Ain't Got No Home, So Long, It's Been Good To Know You, Whippin' That Old T. COUSIN EMMY AND HER KINFOLKS

(38 studio & radio show folk, country & bluegrass recorduinsg from 1950s - 1960s. Incs..I Wish I Was In Bowling Green, Johnny Booker, Freight Train Blues, Milk Cow Blues, Ragtime Annie, Lost John, Groundhog, Truck Drivers Blues, Cacklin' Hen, Sleepy Lou - comes in digi-pac)• A bona fide star from the early days of country radio. Cousin Emmy was 'the first hillbilly star to own a Cadillac.' • Cousin Emmy wrote a song that has become a bluegrass classic, Ruby (Are You Mad At Your Man)? • Emmy became a favorite of the folk revival crowd during the 1950s and 1960s. • She recorded few songs, but Bear Family has acquired some incredibly rare vintage radio shows and private recordings to make a fabulous full-length CD. SALES NOTES A fascinating and enigmatic entertainer from the golden age of early country radio, Cousin Emmy has been ill-served by the reissue industry... until now. She was flamboyant, colorful, and sassy (billing herself as 'the first hillbilly star to own a Cadillac') yet she was 'down home' and sincere. She also wrote one of the great bluegrass classics of all-time, Ruby (Are You Mad At Your Man)? and influenced many performers, including Grandpa Jones. Cousin Emmy danced and sang her way into the hearts of everyone who ever saw one of her personal appearances or heard her on the radio. In her heyday, she was one of the best-known and most popular performers in country music. Her career spanned several decades, from the mid-1930s all the way through the 1940s and into the early 1950s, with a revival in the 1960s and into the 1970s that included an appearance at the Newport Folk Festival and at the Smithsonian as well as a show at the Hollywood Bowl. She also was part of the 1966 European tour 'The American Folk & Country Festival.' She also starred on Pete Seeger's television show. She played everywhere once and was a much bigger star than her few record releases suggest. Now Bear Family has acquired several extremely rare Cousin Emmy radio shows and private recordings, coupling them with the almost-as-rare 1940s Decca recordings to present the first-ever portrait of an unjustly forgotten legend.
