PEE WEE KING AND THE GOLDEN WEST COWBOYS (6 x cd box-set withh 66 page book...One of the strangest stories in country music is how a polka bandleader called Frank Kuczynski from Wisconsin became Pee Wee King and led a big band on the Opry, then wrote several of the biggest hits in country music history. The story is here, and the music is here, including the original versions of Tennessee Waltz, Slow Poke and Bonaparte's Retreat, as well as lesser-known classics like Tennessee Central #9, Ten Gallon Boogie, Jukebox Blues, Bull Fiddle Boogie, Birmingham Bounce, Plantation Boogie, and even the first cover version of Blue Suede Shoes. All told, there are 151 songs cut for RCA and Bullet between 1946 and 1958. Nothing swung harder than the Golden West Cowboys! JIMMIE KIRKLAND COOL DADDY - WITH CECELIA BORON AND HUGH FRIAR AND THE VAGABONDS (rare original rockers from Detroit, with Johnny Powers on one track, many un-issued tracks from this hot Rockabilly cat Tennessee-born Jim Kirkland’s horse ran from the gate like a shot in 1958 when he cut a rock’n’roll record for the Detroit-based Fox record label. But like many rockabillies, his horse jumped the track and carried him away from the finish line and glory, in another direction. Kirkland was one of the pioneers of rock’n’roll in the country music clubs of Detroit, and finger picked a mean, swingin’ guitar in local country groups during the 1960s.
