TOM TALL AND GINNY WRIGHT ARE YOU MINE

(31 original country trax, some as duets, all from 'FABOR' label, incs..Title, I Want You Yes, Underway, Hot Rod Is Her Name, Whirlwind, Out Of Line, I Saw Esua, Boom Boom Boomerang, How To Get Married, Whose Little Pigeon Are You, I Gave My Heart To Two People, Goldie Jo Malone
The story of Tom Tall and Ginny Wright is inextricably bound up with one of the music business's larger-than-life characters: Fabor Robison. In addition to Tom and Ginny, he also discovered Johnny Horton, Jim Reeves, the DeCastro Sisters, Mitchell Torok, the Browns, Bonnie Guitar, and Ned Miller. That would be enough talent for any label, but Fabor managed to alienate them all (in fact, it's rumoured that Jim Reeves wanted to shoot him). Ginny Wright came to Fabor Records to cut a duet with Jim Reeves , and I Love You was a big country hit, peaking at #3 in 1953/4. In November 1954, Ginny recorded Are You Mine with Tom Tall, and it became a #2 country hit, and makes its first-ever appearance on CD here. But then, with the record high in the charts, Ginny just simply quit. She went back to Texas. Years later, she recorded again and even made some more records with Tom Tall, but mostly she cared for her family in Texas. In 2003, she reappeared briefly to become a Louisiana Hayride Hall of Fame inductee. Tom Tall (no, not Tom T. Hall, but Tom Tall) was also from Texas, although his family migrated to California when he was a kid, and that's where he met Fabor Robison. For a couple of years in the early/mid 1950s, Tom looked like a contender. He made sharp west coast country music with a hint of rockabilly (like the classic Hot Rod Is Her Name), and appeared on all the top shows...'Ozark Jubilee,' 'Town Hall Party,' and 'The Grand Ole Opry,' and even toured Texas with Elvis. He was a talent who just didn't get the breaks. Later, after leaving Fabor, he befriended Eddie Cochran and hung around the Los Angeles music scene before moving to Las Vegas, where he is to this day. Now Bear Family tells the unique and fascinating story of Tom Tall and Ginny Wright with Fabor Robison pulling the strings in the background. Longtime fans will remember our Ginny Wright and Tom Tall LPs, and now they're on CD with additional tracks and completely upgraded sound.

HANK THOMPSON - HANK THE HIRED HAND

(Hank Thompson’s key to success lies in his songwriting and his band's consistent sound. Thompson's songs often cast an unflinching eye on the drinking and carousing honky-tonk lifestyle, as exemplified by his signature song 'The Wild Side of Life' as well as 'Honky-Tonk Girl' and 'Six-Pack to Go.' From the late 1940s through the 1970s he was consistently in the country charts, landing nearly fifty songs in the Top-10 or Top-20. With record sales well over 60 million internationally, Hank Thompson's career has impacted on seven decades (from the '40's into the 21st century) of recorded music history.

Hank Thompson died Nov. 6, 2007, following a battle with lung cancer. This double CD set features a fine selection of tracks from the 40’s and 50’s, including some OPS (Office Of Price Stabilzation) radio transcriptions plus a radio show from 2001 in which the King of Western Swing tells the story of his life; the beginnings, his influences and roots, his mates and colleagues... FLOYD TILLMAN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH IT HURTS - HIS RECORDINGS 1936 - 1962 AND 1981

(6 cd set & 80 page hardbacked book. Covers debut recordings with The Blue Ridge Playboys, 5 years of 'DECCA' masters 1939-44, 9 years of 'COLUMBIA ' masters 1946-1955, many small label recordings from 1955 - 57, the 1959 'RCA' lp, two sessions for 'LIBERTY', 1962 'CIMARRON' recordings + 1981 'Live At Gilleys' lp....173 trax in all,
I am maybe the world's biggest Floyd Tillman fan.' Willie Nelson. Floyd Tillman was one of country music's great stylists and alltime greatest songwriters. His music embraced Western Swing, Honky Tonk, and Jazz, and several of his songs became Pop classics. Although born in Oklahoma, he was a Texas music pioneer, embodying all that was different and truly great about the music of the Lone Star state. He was a pioneering electric guitarist...among the first to bring the instrument to country music, and perhaps the most idiosyncratic vocalist ever to sing a country song. His influence on other stylists, such as Willie Nelson, is inestimable. 'You could tell, right away, that his music wasn't the typical country music of the time,' Nelson said. 'He had some of those Django Reinhardt rhythms in his guitar playing, and he was singing about subjects that just weren't being sung about at the time.' Floyd Tillman wrote several country music standards, including It Makes No Difference Now, They Took The Stars Out Of Heaven, Each Night At Nine, Slippin' Around, I'll Keep On Loving You, and I Love You So Much It Hurts. Altogether, his songs have appeared on 50 million records, and have been recorded by artists as diverse as Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, the Supremes, and Ray Charles. His music is also studded with wryly observed non-hits and minor classics like This Cold War With You, Driving Nails In My Coffin and I Gotta Have My Baby Back, all of them transformed into standards. This boxed set starts with his debut recordings as a guitarist and occasional singer for the Blue Ridge Playboys in 1936, and includes all the recordings from his five year stint with Decca (1939-1944) and nine classic years with Columbia (1946-1955). It also includes a handful of small label sides from 1955-1957, his RCA Victor LP from 1958, two sessions for Liberty Records in 1960 and 1961 and his 1962 Cimarron recordings as well as the highly acclaimed 1981 Gilleys LP that includes duets with Ernest Tubb, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and Gilley himself. The backing includes Texas legends like Moon Mullican, Bob Dunn, Johnny Gimble, Herbie Remington, and Ted Daffan. Altogether, there are 173 recordings, and a 80-page-hardcover-book by Kevin Coffey. Sadly, Floyd himself did not live to see this tribute. He died in August 2003. Inducting Floyd Tillman into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984, Willie Nelson said, 'Thanks for giving me words to say and melodies to sing that express my own feelings, along with those of millions of other people.' 6-CD BOX (LP-Size) with 80-page hardcover-book. Playing time: ca. 240:

MITCHELL TOROK - WHEN MEXICO GAVE UP THE RHUMBA (SALE PRICE)

(2 CD set, 53 great country rock 'n' roll & chart hits. This great-value 53-track 2-CD set is an anthology of his career from his earliest Hillbilly recordings in the late 1940s through his most successful period in the first half of the '50s when he enjoyed major success in the US Country charts, and including a dozen tracks which were not originally released (Disc 2 tracks 16-27). This is the first time this material has been released in the UK on CD - it has only previously been available as high-priced imports.

It includes his early work for independent labels followed by the tracks he made for Decca when they picked up his contract, including of course the worldwide hit that is our title track. We know from market feedback that there is a demand from enthusiasts for this material to be made available, and this definitive overview, with comprehensive booklet notes, will find a ready response among this community.
