BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: RUSTY YORK ROCKS (28 original rockers from 'KING/CHESS/SAGE & SAND' labels....digi-pack style. It's time to pay tribute to one of the great unknowns. Most rock 'n' roll fans know Rusty York's hit, Sugaree..., it's one of the last truly great rockabilly singles. But there was much more to his career, and it's a career that opens the door onto the thriving Cincinnati scene in the 1950s. We begin with Rusty in the King and Rite studio in 1957 covering several of the big hits of the day before hooking up with Jackie DeShannon's manager/partner, Pat Nelson, to record a blistering instrumental, Cajun Blues, for Fraternity and Dot. He recorded Sugaree for Nelson's label, but it was acquired by Chess, and became a nationwide hit. Rusty toured with Jack Scott and the big stars of the day. He recorded one more session for Chess (unissued at the time) before cutting more instrumentals for Sage & Sand Records. Then, in 1961, came the incredible session for King with Hank Ballard's band, featuring Tremblin', Lovestruck, and Ballard's Tore Up Over You. We close with the rare rocking version of Jimmy Reed's Baby What You Want Me To Do, the song that Elvis would make into a classic a few years later.Rusty became a successful studio owner. He rarely plays revival shows, but he's one of the great untold stories of the rock 'n' roll era. Bear Family has gone to great lengths to find original audio sources, and we've borrowed Rusty's own photo album to make this set into an absolute must-have. MALCOLM YELVINGTON - ROCKIN' WITH MY BABY (Although he only saw two singles released on Sun, Malcolm Yelvington nonetheless made his mark at Sam Phillips’ label. In many ways his sound and that of his band the Starlight Wranglers presaged Rockabilly with its catchy beat and down-home lyrics, providing a bridge between old time Country music and Rock’n’Roll ? one that Phillips was quick to pick up on. Drawing upon Hillbilly Blues and Western Swing, their infectious, good time energy ensured the boys were in demand around the Memphis area. He may have only had three records released in the formative mid-fifties period of Memphis music, but they were on Sun and Meteor, the flagship labels of the new music - and they were all wonderful. Malcolm was the rarest of rockabilly singers - a man who was sure enough of his own direction to create a style of his own. This CD collects together all of Yelvington's issued and unissued music from the 1950s, from the R&B influenced Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee and the western swing of Just Rolling Along to the iconic Rockin' With My Baby and unreleased cuts that should have been classics - Way Down Blues, Goodbye Marie, and the clever It's My Trumpet. FARON YOUNG - HERE'S FARON YOUNG / OCCASIONAL WIFE (2 original LPs, 22 tracks. Two original Faron Young LPs, first released in 1968 & 1970, now digitally re-mastered and reissued on CD for the first time. Faron Young had one of the longest-running and most popular careers in country music history. Emerging in the early 1950s, Young continued making great music through until the early 1990s. This CD is comprised of two first rate albums; 'Here's Faron Young' from 1968 and 'Occasional Wife' from 1970. Both LPs showcase Faron's recordings from a time when he was at the very height of his career, where his individual trademark tremulous tenor vocals were never better. The album 'Here's Faron Young' includes two country music hits - 'She Went A Little Bit Farther' & 'I Just Came To Get My Baby'. The 'Occasional Wife' LP also produced two hit singles - 'If I Ever Fall In Love (With A Honky Tonk Girl)' and the title track, 'Occasional Wife'. Both albums on this disc have now been digitally re-mastered and are reissued here together on CD for the first time.
