Witty, clean-cut and charismatic, the trio captured the public's imagination in the fall of 1958 with their chart-topping Tom Dooley, and continued with a series of million-selling Capitol albums. ALEXIS KORNER'S BREAKDOWN GROUP - BLUES FROM THE ROUNDHOUSE - FEATURING CYRIL DAVIS (17 super rare 1957 recordings from 99 Records PLUS 12 tracks that feature Korner & Davis as sidemen. 'The Godfather' & The Architect' Of British Blues ... respectively, Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies had each played in various Jazz and Skiffle combos before linking up in 1956, ostensibly to present live music at The Roundhouse pub in London’s Soho. Although initially allied to Skiffle, both Cyril and Alexis were considerably more interested in The Blues, as these early recordings testify. The first recorded fruits of their liaison was the unfeasibly-rare 10” LP Blues From The Roundhouse, credited to Alexis Korner’s Breakdown Group featuring Cyril Davies, recorded in February 1957. This album is the Holy Grail among collectors, as only 99 copies were ever pressed and it has never previously been reissued (listed in the Record Collector Price Guide at 1,000 GBP+). It was swiftly followed by two equally-rare EPs, each also confusingly titled Blues From The Roundhouse, credited to The Alexis Korner Skiffle Group and Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated featuring Cyril Davies, respectively. These three pivotal releases, plus an LP outtake, make up the backbone (tracks 1-17) of this unique compilation. Only three of these sides have ever previously appeared on CD, making this a genuinely crucial collectors’ release. The twelve bonus tracks were all recorded between 1954-56 and feature Alexis and/or Cyril as sidemen.
