BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: GLEN GLENN ROCKS (The definitive 1950s original rockabilly recordings set, covers..'ERA' & 'DORE' masters - 64 page booklet!!! Glen Glenn is perhaps California's best known original 1950s rockabilly outside of Eddie Cochran. A veteran of the fertile California country music scene of the 1950s, Glen along with his longtime partner Gary Lambert on guitar recorded some of the best loved rockabilly sides of all time, including Everybody's Movin' and One Cup Of Coffee, which have both been covered by artists as diverse as The Stray Cats and Bob Dylan! Glen originally recorded a handful of 45's for ERA and DORE Records in the late 1950s, but his legacy is also best known through a slew of demo recordings, unissued tracks, alternate takes, and live recordings from the television and radio. Glen's recordings have been available on reissue since the 1970s, but you had to buy 6 CDs to have all the recordings, with tons of duplication-until now. Leave it to Bear Family to FINALLY do a cohesive presentation of all of Glen Glenn's recordings. This disc, compiled by British rock 'n' roll expert Bill Millar, is the first of two that Bear Family plans to do, and contains all of Glen's studio recordings. From his early country demos (with Ralph Mooney on steel guitar) to the ERA Recordings he is best known for (including the dance floor fave Everybody's Movin'), his rare DORE sides from the late 50s/early 60s (including the never-before reissued Suzie Green from Abilene), along with several alternate takes and rare studio demos, this CD is the definitive word on Glen's studio recordings. The second CD which is planned for release next year will be the definitive compilation of his live recordings and other alternate takes. Bonus here is the incredible packaging featuring an 64-page booklet, packed with incredible pictures of Glen and Gary Lambert backstage with the likes of Elvis, the Maddox Brothers, the Everly Brothers and just about everybody else who was touring the West Coast during the 1950s! Liner notes by Deke Dickerson, who delivers the definitive word on Glen's recordings. Even if you have the other Glen Glenn reissues, you're best advised to take them to the used CD store and get this superlative release with the deluxe Bear Family sound and packaging for your collection! Track listing: Everybody's Movin' (Era 1061) - If I Had Me A Woman - Don't You Love Me - I'm Glad My Baby's Gone Away (Era 1061) - Baby, Let's Play House - One Cup Of Coffee And A Cigarette (Era 1074) - Hold Me Baby - Laurie Ann (Era 1074) - Kitty Cat - Blue Jeans And A Boys Shirt (Era 1086) - Be-Bop-A-Lula Jack And Jill Boogie - Would Ya (Era 1086) - It Rains, Rain - That's All Right - Kathaleen - John Henry - One Cup Of Coffee And A Cigarette (alt) - Would Ya (alt) - Everybody's Movin' (alt) - Blue Jeans And A Boys Shirt (alt) - Goofin' Around (Dore 523) - Suzie Green From Abilene (Dore 523) - I Didn't Have The Sense To Go (Dore 717) - I'll Never Stop Loving You (Dore 717)) BEAR FAMILY Special on-line offer for UK customers only - buy 6 or more DVDs/CDs/Videos (or a mixture of both) and we pay your postage!!! |

BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: ROY HALL ROCKS (27 great original 50s rockers recorded for various labels...56 page booklet.....digi pack Who was Roy Hall? Was he the man who discovered Skeeter Davis, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and co-wrote Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On in a Florida swamp? Or was he a bullshit artist who made a handful of very obscure but very wonderful records a halfcentury ago? Listen to the music, read the text and make up your own mind. This much is certain: even if Roy Hall didn't do all he claimed, he was definitely there. He was there when country boogie began morphing slowly into rockabilly and rock 'n' roll. He was running his Nashville nightclub when Jerry Lee Lewis came to town. He recorded See You Later Alligator before Bill Haley and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On before Jerry Lee Lewis. Later, he too recorded at Sun. The full story of Roy Hall's contribution to rock music is finally all in one place, from the primitive delights of Dirty Boogie to the Cat Music of '55 and '56 (All By Myself, Blue Suede Shoes, etc.) to the later Sun recordings. Along the way, there are incredible rarities, like the single for Webb Pierce's hortlived label...which almost no one has ever seen, much less heard. It's an amazing story (even if it's untrue) and the music is equally amazing. BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: CARL PERKINS ROCKS (31 tracks, 78 minutes of joy...from 'SUN/COLUMBIA/DECCA/MERCURY rockers plus TWO unissued songs: Baby Bye Bye + Memphis In The Meantime...digi pack Carl Perkins WAS rockabilly music. In fact, there was a time in the early 1960s when the only rockabilly you could buy on microgroove was Carl Perkins' Dance Album (oh yes, and a couple of Elvis LPs). The Beatles were not alone in being able to replicate every note on that LP, and they later recorded three of its twelve tracks, Honey Don't, Matchbox, and Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby. Plus, of course, they performed Carl's signature hit, Blue Suede Shoes, in concert. Royalty income from the Beatles aside, Carl Perkins had just one really big hit, Blue Suede Shoes. He managed to hang a career on that one record, yet the flood of tributes that accompanied his passing in January 1998 would lead you to think that one of the era's biggest hitmakers had died. But in a way, Carl Perkins was one of the era's giants, if not in terms of charted records then certainly in other ways. He was one of the first to sing lead, write the songs, and play lead guitar. And he was one of the first to bring a hillbilly feel to R&B or an R&B feel to hillbilly, thereby creating rockabilly, and thereby creating rock 'n' roll. Incredibly, this is the first full career retrospective of Carl Perkins. The very best of the groundbreaking Sun recordings, the best of the late '50s/early '60s Columbia recordings, the cream of the ultra-rare Decca sides, and the later Columbia and Mercury recordings...plus two previously unissued tracks produced by Bill Lloyd (including Carl's version of John Hiatt's Memphis In The Meantime). Many Carl Perkins fans have decided that they must have it all, in which case Bear Family have two boxed sets 'Classic Carl Perkins' and 'Back On Top' , plus a single CD of Dollie recordings, Country Boy's Dream' and a single CD of soundtrack recordings with Johnny Cash, 'I Walk The Line'/'Little Fauss & Big Halsy'. Get all those, and you have everything that Carl recorded between 1954 and 1975. Get this CD and you have a stunning overview of one of the great careers in popular music, plus two recordings you won't find anywhere else! Track listing: Matchbox Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby Honey Don't (take 3) Put Your Cat Clothes On Dixie Fried You Can Do No Wrong Boppin' The Blues Your True Love Blue Suede Shoes (take 2) Her Love Rubbed Off Caldonia Gone, Gone, Gone Right String, Wrong Yo-Yo All Mama's Children Glad All Over Where The Rio De Rosa Flows That's All Right Rockin' Record Hop Sittin' On Top Of The World Because You're Mine Jive After Five Honey, 'Cause I Love You Big Bad Blues Lonely Heart I Wouldn't Have You Restless Honky Tonk Song The E.P. BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: CHARLIE RICH - ROCKS (31 great uptempo rockers from Sun, Smash & RCA - 40 page booklet - digi-pac. Charlie Rich made his living sing slick love songs and ballads during the 1970s and '80s. But fans of vintage rockabilly and Sun rock 'n' roll have always known there was another side to 'The Silver Fox.' Rich cut his teeth on Memphis music and made his first recordings at Sam Phillips' famous Sun studio at 706 Union Avenue. Phillips commented on numerous occasions that he never recorded a more talented singer/songwriter/musician than Charlie Rich. Musicians who worked with Rich still talk about the effortless way he crossed genres and brought jazz, blues, rock and country into what might otherwise have been a routine session. Forget about the slick, over-produced hits of the 1970s and '80s. This collection goes way, way deeper in revealing the rocking soul of Charlie Rich. Rich had it all - Presleyish good looks, a spectacular voice, and piano chops so fine he could have made his living playing on other people’s sessions. This generous album of rockers, compiled from three different label affiliations during the earliest years of Rich’s career, showcases the finest features of his composing and vocal talent. As usual, Bear Family Records digs deep into the vaults and brings together a stellar combination of known, semi-known and utterly obscure selections from Rich’s earliest work. We’ve even managed to unearth some previously unissued tracks and alternate takes. The pakkage includes detailed musical commentary and original biographical notes by Sun and Rich historian, Hank Davis. This collection will be a treat for Charlie Rich’s loyal legion of followers, and will also win some new fans and collectors into the camp of this legendary Arkansas musician. BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: RUSTY YORK ROCKS (28 original rockers from 'KING/CHESS/SAGE & SAND' labels....digi-pack style. It's time to pay tribute to one of the great unknowns. Most rock 'n' roll fans know Rusty York's hit, Sugaree..., it's one of the last truly great rockabilly singles. But there was much more to his career, and it's a career that opens the door onto the thriving Cincinnati scene in the 1950s. We begin with Rusty in the King and Rite studio in 1957 covering several of the big hits of the day before hooking up with Jackie DeShannon's manager/partner, Pat Nelson, to record a blistering instrumental, Cajun Blues, for Fraternity and Dot. He recorded Sugaree for Nelson's label, but it was acquired by Chess, and became a nationwide hit. Rusty toured with Jack Scott and the big stars of the day. He recorded one more session for Chess (unissued at the time) before cutting more instrumentals for Sage & Sand Records. Then, in 1961, came the incredible session for King with Hank Ballard's band, featuring Tremblin', Lovestruck, and Ballard's Tore Up Over You. We close with the rare rocking version of Jimmy Reed's Baby What You Want Me To Do, the song that Elvis would make into a classic a few years later.Rusty became a successful studio owner. He rarely plays revival shows, but he's one of the great untold stories of the rock 'n' roll era. Bear Family has gone to great lengths to find original audio sources, and we've borrowed Rusty's own photo album to make this set into an absolute must-have. Track listing: Sugaree - Sweet Love - The Girl Can't Help It - Mean Woman Blues - Peggy Sue - Great Balls Of Fire - Shake 'em Up Baby - Red Rooster (instrumental) - Sweet Talk - Peggy Sue (2) - Sadie Mae - Tore Up Over You - Tremblin' - Love Struck - La Dee Dah (& Bonnie Lou) - Cajun Blues /Frosty (instrumental) - Goodnight Cincinnati, Good Morning Tennessee - Sweet Love (2) - You'd Better Leave My Baby Alone - Baby What You Want Me To Do - Don't Do It - One, One, One, Wonderful (instrumental) - Molly Darlin' - Tremblin' (alt) - Tore Up Over You (alt) - The Girl Can't Help It (2) - A Fallen Star - Margaret Ann) BEAR FAMILY Special on-line offer for UK customers only - buy 6 or more DVDs/CDs/Videos (or a mixture of both) and we pay your postage!!! |

BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: PAT BOONE - ROCKS - (34 original DOT masters, with Pat as his most rockinist!!! 34 tracks, playing time: 77:17 - 48 page booklet - Second best-selling artist of the 1950s...Second only to Elvis! A unique collection of his rock 'n' roll songs! Includes rarities and obscurities! -- The latest volume in the Bear Family 'Rocks' series is a collection of surprisingly fine rock 'n' roll by Pat Boone. Much criticised and unfairly maligned by rock n roll 'authorities' over the years, Boone's rock 'n' roll catalogue was supremely popular in the U.S., the U.K., Germany and the rest of the world at the height of the rock 'n' roll era! In 1955 and '56, Boone visited the charts on both sides of the Atlantic regularly with a treasure trove of rockin' titles. His critics shout 'But they were nearly all cover versions!' Indeed they were, but they were very well sung, very well recorded, AND they were extremely successful! -- This new compilation features 34 recordings from the period 1955 through to 1962. Here are classic covers and revivals of Fats Domino's 'Ain't That A Shame', 'I'm In Love Again' and 'The Fat Man', Little Richard's 'Long Tall Sally' and 'Tutti Frutti', Big Joe's 'Honey Hush', Tennessee Ernie's 'Shotgun Boogie', and Red Foley's 'Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy'. -- Listen and enjoy once again the rockin' Pat Boone, the artist who was second only to Elvis Presley in the charts of the Fifties, the decade when rock 'n' roll ruled the world! -- The set is rounded off by a generously full booklet featuring period photographs and detailed in-person recollections from the man himself! BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: EDDIE COCHRAN - ROCKS (Eddie Cochran needs no introduction to rock 'n' roll fans - he was one of the original architects of rock 'n' roll, and he has been reissued extensively since his tragic death in April 1960. This compilation, however, is the first to compile all of Eddie's solo 'rockin' tracks in one place - without the usual mishmash of hillbilly tunes, instrumentals, and ballads. Quite simply, this CD rocks from start to finish! From Eddie's first rock 'n' roll solo recordings in early 1956 to his last recording session in January 1960, you'll hear such treasures as the original, undubbed versions of Skinny Jim, Twenty Flight Rock, Blue Suede Shoes, and Long Tall Sally. This compilation also includes all of the rocking tracks from Eddie's 1957 LP Album 'Singin' To My Baby' such as the less familiar Completely Sweet and Stockings And Shoes. The pounding hits from Summertime Blues and C'mon Everybody to Somethin' Else are all here too. Of course you will hear posthumously released classics such as Nervous Breakdown, Let's Get Together, My Way, Teenage Heaven and Ah, Pretty Girl which is the rarer version with Eddie providing the guitar overdub. The closing number is the classic Cut Across Shorty, heard here at its original speed instead of the oft heard released speeded up recording. All in all even if you've heard these tracks before, this compilation is worth having to blast at your next backyard party. And if this is your introduction to the great music of Eddie Cochran, prepare to have your mind blown - Eddie Cochran rocks! Track listing: Pink-Peg Slacks (version 1), Blue Suede Shoes (undubbed), Long Tall Sally (undubbed), Twenty Flight Rock (version 1), Completely Sweet (version 1), Pink-Peg Slacks (version 2), Mighty Mean, Skinny Jim, One Kiss, Mean When I'm Mad, Am I Blue, Twenty-Flight Rock (version 2), Completely Sweet (version 2), Stockings And Shoes, Cradle Baby, Sweetie Pie, Pretty Girl, Jeannie, Jeannie, Jeannie, Teenage Cutie, Little Lou, Cruisin' The Drive-In, Nervous Breakdown (version 1), Summertime Blues (US single version), Ah, Pretty Girl (guitar overdub), Nervous Breakdown (version 2), Let's Get Together, C'mon Everybody (speeded up), Teenage Heaven (movie version), MyWay, Teenage Heaven (version 2), Weekend, Somethin' Else, Jelly Bean, Don't Bye, Bye Baby Me (with overdubs), Cut Across Shorty (correct speed) - Digi-pac) BEAR FAMILY Special on-line offer for UK customers only - buy 6 or more DVDs/CDs/Videos (or a mixture of both) and we pay your postage!!! |

BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: BILL HALEY ROCKS (33 originals in top quality...comes in Digi-pack. The hoopla surrounding the purported fiftieth anniversary of rock 'n' roll in 2004 didn't quite ring true. Yes, Elvis made his first record in 1954, but Bill Haley, who died neglected and alone on the Mexican border twenty-five years ago on the 9th of February, went to his grave wondering why he'd been written out of the story. True, the Pennsylvania polka bars where he stumbled across his music didn't have the eye candy appeal of Memphis after dark, and yes he was almost middle-aged and had a goofy little kiss curl, but he was in the charts with rock 'n' roll as early as 1953, and he'd figured it out several years before that. So yes, Bill Haley was first, and some say that he's still the greatest. No one at Bear Family would argue with that! Bear Family presents, for the first time ever, a complete cross-section of Bill Haley's rockin'est recordings. Some were made for Holiday and Essex Records in the early 1950s and some for Decca in the mid-to-late 1950s. Here's his version of Rocket '88' from 1951 which proves he was already on the verge of figuring it out. Later Essex recordings like Rock The Joint and Crazy, Man, Crazy (the absolute guaranteed first rock 'n' roll hit from 1953!) proved that he was indisputably first. Then, of course, he switched to Decca and his early Decca singles, Shake Rattle And Roll and Rock Around The Clock, were the shots heard around the world. BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: DALE HAWKINS ROCKS (35 great rockers with FIVE UN-ISSUED songs & many alternate takes, with great guitarist such as James Burton & Roy Buchanan this really does ROCK!! - digi-pac) Dale Hawkins originated Susie Q...the original garage, punk, rockabilly classic! • A new search through the Chess vaults reveals FIVE unreleased songs and very different alternate takes! • Incredible audio engineering brings these classics to life as never before. • A bonanza of great guitarists including James Burton and Roy Buchanan! • Dale is still out there... still performing, and still rocking. He will be forever identified with just one hit... but what a hit! Susie Q. Creedence Clearwater Revival recorded it, Elvis recorded it, the Everly Brothers recorded it, and so did many others. But Dale Hawkins originated it and James Burton played the guitar lick that is forever etched in a rock 'n' roll fan's subconscious mind. But there was much more to Dale Hawkins on Chess Records than Susie Q, and fifty years later the full story is revealed on Bear Family. Dale came from the thriving Shreveport scene, alongside Elvis, Johnny Horton, Tommy Sands, and many others. Win, lose, or draw, he was always able to find the all-time greatest guitarists. After James Burton quit to join Ricky Nelson, Dale recruited Roy Buchanan, who is heard on several tracks here. And so, fifty years after Susie Q first set the airwaves alight, we now have the complete story of Dale Hawkins on Chess Records. TRACK LISTING CD: 1. Susie Q 2. See You Soon Baboon 3. BEAR FAMILY ROCKS SERIES: BUDDY KNOX AND JIMMY BOWEN - ROCK (CD digipac with 52-page booklet - First definitive package devoted to a true rockabilly pioneer! - First package to draw from all Buddy Knox's significant label affiliations. - Includes first self-composed #1 rockabilly hit, Party Doll. - Incredible photos and first-hand recollections! Following their national emergence in 1957, the achievements of two small town Texas boys would shake the music world for decades to come. Still remembered for the enduring classic Party Doll, Buddy Knox was the first rockabilly singer-songwriter to score a number one pop hit, and enjoyed more follow up successes than many of his peers (Hula Love, I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself and several others). Jimmy Bowen, whose Roulette waxing of I'm Stickin' With You was a solid Top 20 hit, later produced major smash hits by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tillis, Reba McEntire, and George Strait. In the process, he revolutionized the Nashville sound. Knox and Bowen began their careers in the Rhythm Orchids, a freewheeling quintet that rose from college fraternity parties to national prominence virtually overnight. Those were the pioneer days of rock, Knox said in an interview, most of us won't trade those days for anything. The complete story is here. Every hit and every rockin' single from every significant label affiliation. He was one of the first casualties of rock ‘n’ roll. - The music! The story! The fabulous photos! All teenagers have dreams, sometimes dreams come true. Little Frankie Lymon wanted to be a big star and his dream came true. Before the age of 13 he wrote and performed a song that became the rallying cry for a whole generation.
