1950s RADIO IN COLOUR

Writer and musician Chris Kennedy In 2006 discovered the lost, never before published color photo collection of popular 1950s Cleveland radio deejay Tommy Edwards. The collection consists of over 1,700 Ektachrome slides of practically everyone who passed through his radio station from 1955-60. Eddie Cochran, Elvis, Chuck Berry, country music superstars, Hollywood celebrities and hopeful unknowns.

The photographs are works of art and capture something magical.

The Kent State University Press has published his book on the collection. Here's a link: http://www.kentstateuniversitypress.com/2011/1950s-radio-in-color/

RIP HANK COCHRAN

Hank Cochran, the esteemed country music songwriter revered for the poetic economy and power of such enduring hits as Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces" and Eddy Arnold's "Make the World Go Away," died Thursday at his home in Hendersonville, Tenn., after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 74.  He was also one half of the "Cochran Brothers" duo back in the 50's  with Eddie Cochran (no relation).

NEW ALBUM
EDDIE COCHRAN - STRING FEVER - THE INSTRUMENTALS
This new CD courtesy of Rockstar Records is the first all instrumental collection by Eddie Cochran. Eddie was mainly known for his rock and roll classics, such as Summer Time Blues, C’mon Everybody and Somethi n’ Else which did not highlight his instrumental ability. Some of these recordings feature legendary studio musicians including Earl Palmer, Plas Johnson and Connie Smith. Many of the instrumentals, for example, Guybo, Strollin’ Guitar and Scratchin’ feature Eddie playing all the instruments by a series of over dubs.

Also included are several backing tracks and rare items for the first time. Eddie toured the UK in the early part of 1960, during this time he appeared on the BBC radio show Saturday Club and the Boy Meets Girl TV shows.

During this period he worked with some of the best musicians of this time such as Big Jim Sullivan and Joe Brown. Unfortunately Eddie lost his life due to a car accident on the way back to London Airport on the 17th April 1960. Joe Brown and Big Jim Sullivan passed on many of Eddie’s pioneering guitar techniques to other UK musicians over the years.

GRETSCH  "EDDIE COCHRAN" 6120

Rockabilly Legend Eddie Cochran Remembered
With G6120w-1957 Model Guitar

As one of the newest additions to the professional line of guitars in 2001, the Gretsch Guitar Company will introduce the G6120W-1957 model hollow body electric guitar at the Winter NAMM show in Ahaheim.

The G6120W-1957 reproduces the look and distinctive sound of early rock legend Eddie Cochran's model 6120 guitar. Cochran was one of rock's first guitar heroes and Gretsch's first rock 'n' roll star. Many of Cochran's singles, such as the classic "Summertime Blues", included That Great Gretsch Sound. Cochran, whose promising career was tragically cut short as a result of a fatal automobile accident, was memorialized in two Hollywood rock films in the 1950s, "The Girl Can't Help It" and "Go, Johnny, Go".

This beautiful single-cutaway guitar features an arched maple top and maple sides and back. The body and oversized f-holes are bound with multiple white and white/black bindings. Joining the body at the 14th fret, the rock maple neck features an ebony fingerboard with Western motif engraved block inlays, and 22 frets. Electronics include one P-90 neck pickup and 1 DynaSonic bridge pickup, a pickup selector switch, master volume and master tone controls, and two volume controls. Also featured is a polished aluminum Bigsby vibrato tailpiece. A transparent Gretsch pickguard with "Nashville" signpost adds a finishing touch along with the classic "G" brand on the guitar's lower left bout.
