IVES, HUNTINGDON PE27 Cambridge, United Kingdom Created by: THE WHITE HART, CAMBS & HUNTS MONSTER RAVING LOONY PARTY HQ., Wendy Oliver, Alan Hope, Loony Lord Toby Jug More info Lord Toby, a musician from St Ives, is now in his 24th year as a politician, having been taken under the wing of his late mentor, Screaming Lord Sutch. He is planning to contest St Ives in the district council elections in May and has earmarked the White Hart as his party headquarters. Lord Toby said he would be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society during the election, following the death of his stepfather who had the condition. He has previously raised money for the Teenage Cancer Trust at elections with the support of bookies William Hill. WE WILL BE HOLDING A MAD HATTERS TEA PARTY DURING MY LOONY MANICFESTO LAUNCH ON FRIDAY 1ST APRIL(APRIL FOOLS DAY) ALL DAY IN LOCAL LOONY PARTY HQ THE WHITE HART IN AID OF THE ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY.. DO YOU KNOW THE COMPOSER/SINGER OF THIS DEMO?Robb Shenton has contacted us: Please find enclosed an demo-disc of the song "I Love Only You", which was given to me by Joe late in 1966; which he asked me to learn. Joe also said he had a firm offer of a deal for EM1 to exclusively distribute his productions, and that he was now confident of soon receiving the monies owed to him for 'Telstar'. The disc was given to me following a meeting with Joe at Holloway Road, I was accompanied on that visit by a good mate of mine - drummer in a band with me at the time - the late Mickey Cook. I then went on tour, U.K and Abroad, and because on tour; I didn't get the opportunity to record it as soon as I would have liked, I was hoping to record it sometime in early 1967 - with mutually agreed dates between Joe and myself, but of course Joe and Violet's tragic deaths in February '67 ended that particular project. It would be interesting to know who the writer of the song was - and if the writer sang on the Demo. There are no other clues other than the Title; "I LOVE ONLY YOU" and the publisher CAMPBELL CONNELLY. Is there anyone out there who can assist.. I still have the Acetate demo-disc that Joe gave me at his studio's in Holloway Road in late 1966, [45 years ago - whew]. Listen to the demo and let us know what you think... You can download it here and use it to add or delete tracks and compile your own version. NEWS FROM MALCOM LENNY OF THE PACKABEATS I've just been looking through the JMS website and I thought we PACKABEATS should have a link to our website. www.packabeats.co.uk It's full of old Black and White pics and stuff and it's got a few toons on it too. It looks like we may be recording another CD after my appearance with The Triumphs at The Ace Café. After "Then and Now!" and "This is It!" we're calling this one "Oh Alright Then!" It may take a while as the logistics of two and a half members living abroad but we'll get there. Best regards, Malcolm, for THE PACKABEATS. 1958 CLAVIOLINE Hi, Just thought you might like this... I have just had my 1958 Selmer Clavioline fully restored and recapped.....it is the same model/colour as used in the 'Telstar' film and is fully complete with amplifier... I just very quickly recorded a bit of Telstar on my phone using the settings that Peter Knight suggests :-) Hope you enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikDu9BbmCqE Cheers Justin ANNUAL MUSIC PRODUCERS GUILD AWARDS Tony Visconti, producer for Marc Bolan, David Bowie and Morrissey, has been honoured for his innovation with the Joe Meek Award LATEST ISSUES OF THUNDERBOLT MAILED OUT TO ALL MEMBERS Meek Engineered Part 2 Monty Sunshine - Obituary Mick Borer - Obituary The Impac The Jaybirds Reg Calvert and the RGM Connection Analysis of Geoff Goddard's Handwriting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - YORKSHIRE COMPOSER RELEASES HOMAGE TO JOE MEEK Meek’s
productions have a highly distinctive sonic fingerprint which is
largely a result of the way he employed technology in recording and
producing his artists – for example, his use of heavy
compression, persistently driving the needle ‘into the red’,
was
unorthodox for the period, as was his propensity to swamp his tracks in
echo. His approach to making records betrays certain similarities to
that of his contemporary Phil Spector in its prioritisation of the
‘sound’ of the record over the individual personalities of the
musicians involved in making the recordings. The track has been composed, arranged and produced by Mark Marrington, and released via MadeinMIDI, a production label he set up in 2009. Marrington, who lives in Hebden Bridge and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Popular Music at Leeds College of Music, describes the record as “my attempt to capture the spirit of Meek in the era of the software studio”. “Meek was way ahead of his time in anticipating the era of the bedroom producer”, says Marrington, “and he exhibited a certain doggedness in his determination to prove to the major recording studios of the period that record production was a creative process rather than simply a means of documenting the music that was in fashion at the time”. The single has been released under the pseudonym ‘(The) Rattles’ (an anagram of ‘Telstar’) a band which Marrington describes as “the missing musical link between Manchester and Halifax”. For more information about ‘Starlet’, and to hear the single online, visit http://www.reverbnation.com/rattles. To schedule an interview with Mark Marrington email madeinmidi@gmail.com ‘Starlet’ release background: The track ‘Starlet’ first appeared as an internet release on the music website, www.reverbnation.com, on Thursday 3 Feb 2011. It will shortly be made available to buy via Amazon and iTunes. Mark Marrington Biography: Mark was born in Coventry in 1971, and studied Music at Nene College, Northampton and University of Leeds. As a composer he is probably best known for his ‘Fugue on the Final Countdown’, an orchestral composition which uses Swedish rock band Europe’s famous 1986 ‘glam’ Metal theme as its musical subject matter. The work was first performed at the Scarborough ‘Beached’ Festival in 2005 by the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra (when Mark was interviewed about the piece for Look North) and recently received a second performance at Leeds College of Music in 2009. He is presently a Senior Lecturer in Popular Music at the Leeds College of Music and is undertaking research into music technology and contemporary composition. Mark has always insisted that music should be fun! Mark Marrington email madeinmidi@gmail.com NEW BLUE PLAQUE, LUNCH AND MEMORIAL CONCERT FOR DUSTY SPRINGFIELD SUNDAY 8th MAY 2011 The
