SOUNDS OF THE SIXTIES

The Society recommends a listen to this radio show - broadcast every Saturday morning at 08.05 am on UK BBC Radio 2.   Our thanks to Producer Phil Swern and Presenter Brian Matthew and Sounds Of The Sixties in general for playing RGM records on almost a weekly basis and often more than one.

They are helping to keep Joe's name alive and get credit from us for that. They also publicised the Blue Plaque on 2 April as we had asked (but didn't expect them to do).

JOE MEEK SOCIETY SUBSCRIPTIONS

It was agreed at our AGM earlier this month to raise subscription prices - so if you were thinking about joining why not do it now at current rates.  New rates will come into effect shortly.

The new Heritage Foundation plaque unveiled at Newent last month has digital information embedded which enables you to view information via your mobile phone

The mobile site is at http://1091.memorialtags.mobi/ and you can view this on a normal computer web browser or input to your mobile phone.

To view on a mobile by scanning the plaque you need to have the appropriate application on your mobile phone. For example Bee Tagg.

Below is a short list of companies that offer the free code reader:

Open that application on your phone and that automatically opens the camera on your phone. You take a photo of the plaque (the tag is embedded in the centre of the plaque) with the phone and the details are there for you to see (if you have a phone that has access to the web). The photo then states "detecting"  - the website
http://1091.memorialtags.mobi/ then comes up and you can download all the details there and then.

The Memorial Tags normal website is at http://www.memorialtags.com/ where you can input the tag 1091 if you want to view from a computer.

DO YOU KNOW THE COMPOSER/SINGER OF THIS DEMO?

Robb Shenton has contacted us:

Please find enclosed an demo-disc of the song "I Love Only You", which was given to me by Joe late in 1966; which he asked me to learn.  Joe also said he had a firm offer of a deal for EM1 to exclusively distribute his productions, and that he was now confident of soon receiving the monies owed to him for 'Telstar'.   The disc was given to me following a meeting with Joe at Holloway Road, I was accompanied on that visit by a good mate of mine - drummer in a band with me at the time - the late Mickey Cook.

I then went on tour, U.K and Abroad, and because on tour; I didn't get the opportunity to record it as soon as I would have liked, I was hoping to record it sometime in early 1967 - with mutually agreed dates between Joe and myself, but of course Joe and Violet's tragic deaths in February '67 ended that particular project.

It would be interesting to know who the writer of the song was - and if the writer sang on the Demo.   There are no other clues other than the Title;  "I LOVE ONLY YOU"  and the publisher CAMPBELL CONNELLY.

Is there anyone out there who can assist.. I still have the Acetate demo-disc that Joe gave me at his studio's in Holloway Road in late 1966,
[45 years ago - whew].

Listen to the demo and let us know what you think...
