CRAIG DOUGLAS NEWS
Hi, Just a note to thank you so much for publishing news re: Craig Douglas.
Really appreciated.    Just thought I would update you with latest on Craig , who is really
getting all his confidence back after such a huge, life changing set back.

Oct 6th 2011, at the Medina Theatre , Newport IOW, Craig successfully spent 2 hrs on stage introducing his own "special friends", telling anecdotes, singing songs from his old hits to the brand new recorded songs of his new album. The special friends appearing with his own band was
Nichola Bailey , young singer songwriter from the Island. A friend of 50 yrs , Pat Reader who was a Joe Meek recording artist , and his very good friend Marty Wilde. Marty did 5 songs unplugged , and 3 duets with Craig, including their / both big hit " Teenager in Love".    Craig and Marty went
down a storm to a SOLD OUT AUDIENCE, and a 5 min standing ovation, with the Audience fully appreciating this new style show.  (A Jools Holland type show).

THROUGH PUBLIC DEMAND , CRAIG AND I HAVE RE:BOOKED THE MEDINA THEATRE,  NEWPORT,  IOW.  for Thurs. March 8th 2011 to appear in a similar concept with another good friend ALVIN STARDUST.  ALVIN will be singing 5/6 songs , again unplugged , and 3 duets with CRAIG.

CRAIG has also been asked to sing a couple of old songs at the Water Rats Annual Dinner and Dance , in London on the 27th Nov.         We are hoping to be able to announce over the next couple of months a few shows , with very special guests , around the South of England.

CRAIG'S CD "The Craig Douglas Project"  with producer Andy Gray.  Update.

We have not yet released his CD as yet , due to two major record labels being interested in the CD. This , as you would appreciate , takes a long-time for them to make decisions these days , but I will keep you updated as to when and how Craig's CD will be eventually released.           What has been released are three  songs from his new CD , on You Tube.

Click the title to see the video on You Tube

We would appreciate your comments when you go into these You Tube sites.        We did , however, print up 200 copies of his CD , of which we have approx. 100 left (signed) for promotion. If anyone is interested in purchasing this "special issue"  before general release , then please contact me direct for details. The CD 's are £10 each plus P&P. £2.

THE CRAIG DOUGLAS PROJECT

Craig Douglas, the 50’s and 60’s hit recording star who had a British number one and sold more than 20 million records has joined forces with one of the UK’s top music producers Andy Gray.

Craig’s career spans more than 50 years.  Voted Best New Singer in 1959, Craig has had nine Top 40 UK singles including the Number One ‘Only Sixteen’.  This well remembered early UK pop star continues his career with film, stage and cabaret appearances around the globe.

Andy’s long list of credits includes the music for Big Brother, the soundtrack for the film Swordfish, which starred John Travolta, remixes for Madonna, U2 and Gary Numan and many more.  Most recent works include the music for the film TT3D, a movie about the world famous TT motor cycle race.

Craig and Andy have come together to revitalise classic hit songs and vocals, reinventing the source material and introducing Craig to completely new singing styles.  This has, in part, also resulted in a re-invention of Craig himself, who after a period of ill health, is delighted to be involved in this ground breaking project.  Amongst the new material to Craig are hits by Radiohead (Creep), and World Party (Is it Like Today) – songs Craig would never have dreamt of singing before getting together with Andy this year.

Craig’s distinctive vocals are expertly arranged and produced by Andy, making each song sound like Craig’s own.

Also involved in the Project is Pat Reader. Pat won a talent competition on the Isle Of Wight the same night as Craig, in a different theatre!  Pat and Craig have remained firm friends ever since, their friendship spans 50 years.  Pat went on to record with Joe Meek and after a long break away from the world of show business, is now working alongside Craig and Andy.

Simon Spurr and Lewis Berry, two professional Island musicians complete the Project team.

TELSTAR MOVIE CLAVIOLINE FOR SALE

Dear Joe Meek fans,

We are a busy guitar shop on Denmark Street in Central London. We have recently acquired from a regular customer an original Clavioline with matching amplifier, which as I'm sure you know, was the Telstar lead instrument.

This happens to be the very Clavioline that was used in the filming of the Telstar movie which came out in 2010.

We were wondering if anyone in the society might be interested in buying this piece. I'm emailing you before I put it on the website, although it is on sale on the shop floor, so best not to delay too long if someone is interested. The two items are on sale here together for £1195.

Please direct any responses to this email address sales@wunjoguitars.com, or please phone 0207 379 0737 and any one of us will be happy to discuss this with you.

Kind regards
Jimmy-James

A TRIBUTE CD TO SCREAMING LORD SUTCH

Good news for all Screaming Lord Sutch fans with the forthcoming release of a long overdue tribute CD to the King of Shock 'n' Roll. It's still being recorded with about ten of the tracks already done. However, there's a delay over one of the bands getting into a studio, so unfortunately it will probably be released later in the year, possibly nearer Christmas before it`s on the streets. It`s going to be called "Monster Raving From A Long Black Coffin..A Tribute To Screaming Lord Sutch".

For more info contact Alan Wilson at the Western Star website. he`ll be pleased to hear from you. www.western-star.co.uk

EARLY 1960s BANDS

Patrick Vinet in France has been doing a cracking series of web pages on very early 1960s bands such as the Savages etc.

He's always on the look out for contributions for new pages on early 1960s bands and would welcome musicians contacting him.

SCREAMING LORD SUTCH

A true classic, this was His Lordship's first record release, which he also wrote, and it was produced by the legendary Joe Meek back in 1961. It was originally titled 'Big Black Coffin' and like most of the Screaming Lord's records it was banned by the BBC as being deemed 'Unsuitable for those of a nervous disposition.' Sutch Is Life!

Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages - 'Til The Following Night - 1961 45rpm
Dave Sutch & The Savages' first 45. Perfect excuse for Joe Meek to lash together his scary sound-effects tapes!

THE SCIENCE MUSEUM AND TELSTAR

We have been contacted by the curator to provide a clavioline for an exhibition at the Science Museum in London and have put them in touch with Peter Knight who still owns the original instrument played on Telstar

DO YOU KNOW THE COMPOSER/SINGER OF THIS DEMO?

Robb Shenton has contacted us:

Please find enclosed an demo-disc of the song "I Love Only You", which was given to me by Joe late in 1966; which he asked me to learn.  Joe also said he had a firm offer of a deal for EM1 to exclusively distribute his productions, and that he was now confident of soon receiving the monies owed to him for 'Telstar'.   The disc was given to me following a meeting with Joe at Holloway Road, I was accompanied on that visit by a good mate of mine - drummer in a band with me at the time - the late Mickey Cook.

I then went on tour, U.K and Abroad, and because on tour; I didn't get the opportunity to record it as soon as I would have liked, I was hoping to record it sometime in early 1967 - with mutually agreed dates between Joe and myself, but of course Joe and Violet's tragic deaths in February '67 ended that particular project.

It would be interesting to know who the writer of the song was - and if the writer sang on the Demo.   There are no other clues other than the Title;  "I LOVE ONLY YOU"  and the publisher CAMPBELL CONNELLY.

Is there anyone out there who can assist.. I still have the Acetate demo-disc that Joe gave me at his studio's in Holloway Road in late 1966,
[45 years ago - whew].

Listen to the demo and let us know what you think...
